Third Annual Check Presentation Ceremony to Take Place at Youngwood SHOP 'n SAVE on August 17 at 10 a.m.

PITTSBURGH – Aug. 3, 2017 – SHOP 'n SAVE®, the independently owned and operated grocery retailer with more than 100 stores in Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia, has raised nearly $40,000 for military families in need following several months of fundraising efforts leading up to the SHOP 'n SAVE Westmoreland County Airshow, June 24-25. To conclude the successful fundraising season, the grocer will host a check presentation ceremony at the Youngwood SHOP 'n SAVE on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. During the ceremony, SHOP 'n SAVE executive leadership and Youngwood storeowner, Tom Jamieson, will present a check for $23,651 to the Feherty's Troops First Foundation, benefitting local military families in need.

“Our involvement in the 2017 SHOP 'n SAVE Westmoreland County Airshow gives us the opportunity to not only provide family fun at the event but to also support our military service members who have sacrificed so much," said Rich Haeflein, advertising account manager at SHOP 'n SAVE. “We're proud to continue on with this tradition each year and hope to continue this momentum during our next fundraising season."

For the third consecutive year, SHOP 'n SAVE continued its title sponsorship of the Westmoreland County Airshow. The grocer conducted in-store fundraising efforts benefitting military families leading up to the Airshow through its “Earn Your Wings" initiative, where customers could purchase flight wings for $1 at checkout. All proceeds supported the Feherty's Troops First Foundation, a non-profit organization benefitting wounded veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

At the 2017 Airshow, SHOP 'n SAVE continued its fundraising efforts benefiting military families at its official tent area. Airshow patrons could sign one of three dragsters honoring the U.S. military and the late golf legend and aviation enthusiast Arnold Palmer. Palmer, a Latrobe native, passed away in September and was memorialized through various tributes at the 2017 Airshow. Photos with Palmer's golf cart and bag as well as a game of putt-putt golf were available for patrons to participate in for a small donation. In addition, gift and fuel cards were raffled off as part of the retailer's partnership with Sunoco and Eckrich. These collective fundraising efforts resulted in $23,651 raised for the Feherty's Troops First Foundation.

SHOP 'n SAVE will present the funds raised to Feherty's Troops First Foundation during a check presentation ceremony at the Youngwood SHOP 'n SAVE, located at 250 S 3rd St., Youngwood, PA, 15697 on August 17 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will recognize the Youngwood store's outstanding fundraising efforts, as it was the SHOP 'n SAVE retailer with the most money raised through its sale of cutouts for the second consecutive year. Community members and members of the media are welcome to attend.

In addition to the retailer's fundraising efforts on behalf of Feherty's Troops First Foundation, SHOP 'n SAVE also joined forces with Eckrich and Operation Homefront at the 2017 Airshow to provide a year's worth of free groceries to a local military family. Adam and April Elliott received the prize totaling more than $13,500, which equals approximately $260 per week. The Elliott's have five children ranging from eight months to 16-years-old. Adam was deployed to Iraq in 2007 and served four years in the United States Marine Corps. April is his full-time caregiver and a member of Operation Homefront's Hearts of Valor™ program, a network of over 3,000 caregivers of wounded veterans.
